‘helping parents to understand how young people use the Internet’

digitalparents is a social enterprise focussed on helping parents to keep their children safe on the Internet. Parent's raising today's digital natives have not grown up with the Internet and often it is hard to know what to do. There are many websites that offer advise to parents, there are some that address online safety and there are some individuals that offer themselves as experts - we are trying to help you make sense of it all.

About us image

As parents, we feel that collectively we can solve our own problems and answer our own questions. We have spoken to over 500 parents face-to-face and they always have great ideas that they can share with each other. What has worked, what hasn't worked, fun things, dull things, new things and exciting ideas.

All the schools we have visited believe that technology is here to stay and it will increasingly be used in teaching to provide a stimulating and more rewarding learning experiences. It here to stay and as parents we need to learn how to manage technology at home.

Toby Treacher

Toby Treacher about me

Having worked in telecoms and IT for 10 years, I decided to setup digitalparents, hoping to use some of today's technologies to build an online resource for parents. I really want to simplify the sometimes over complicated online world and help parents feel more confident when discussing technology with their children.

It never ceases to amaze me how many technically literate friends I have who are not considering what their children are getting up to (you know who you are ;o) online. This site has been built for them, I need them to understand that by their teenage years it will be too late. Parenting is not optional, you have to see it through and if you are not paying attention to the technology you are missing at least half of the point! Children don't go outside and play like we used to, instead the world comes to them and you had better be paying attention.
